This Fugue in G minor for organ is quite well known as the ‚Little Fugue in G minor' in Leopold Stokowski's colourful version for symphony orchestra. Lucian Beschiu has made a faithful arrangement for string quartet or string orhestra without changing the voice leading (only two carefully done octave changes due to pitch limitations in the low register). It is a very attractive contribution to the repertoire for strings that can open a concert programme in a very effective way.

Before the Premiere of the symphonic version of the Chopin concerti, the first performance, in the chamber version, took place in the living room of Chopin parents' apartment in Warsaw. Chopin's interest and genius lies in his writing for the piano, with hardly any interest in symphonic composition. While speculation as to who was responsible for the symphonic orchestration of the concerti continues, the five part accompaniment, best suited for a string quintet and easily adapted for a strings orchestra is most certainly Chopin's. The five parts can be found in Warsaw and Prague. However, both versions contain errors, missprints and dynamics which are unsuitable for a string quintet, which I have tried to correct. To my knowledge, there is no full score for piano and strings available until this publication.
My gratitude for the pleasure of discovering and enjoying this jewel goes (in chronological order) to Alfredo Aracil, at the time Artistic Director of the Granada International Music and Dance Festival, who brought to my attention the existence of the chamber version and engaged me to perform both concerti at the festival. To Wojciech Michniewski, a superb musician, conductor and friend who helped in obtaining the five strings parts in Poland. To the Soloists of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, with whom I enjoyed recording the concerti and to Frano Kakarigi, a friend and colleague for the painstaking task of copying and transforming the loose pages into coherent parts and a full score. To Lucian Beschiu who kindly voluntered to revise the final corrections and improve the appearance of the parts and score, and to Evelyn and Jürgen Höflich of Musikproduktion Höflich, for their enthusiasm in publishing the score and parts, thereby making this version available to all.

Antes que tuviera lugar la primera presentación sinfónica de los Conciertos de Chopin, éstos fueron presentados en la sala del apartamento de sus padres en Varsovia, en versión de Cámara. El genio e interés de Chopin se alojaron principalmente en sus composiciones para piano y no se conoce ningún interés de su parte por composiciones sinfónicas. A pesar de las especulaciones sobre quien fuera el responsable de la orquestación de los Conciertos, no cabe duda que las cinco partituras que acompañan al piano, en su versión original, fueron ciertamente escritas por Chopin. A pesar de que éstas se pueden encontrar en Varsovia y Praga, ambas contienen errores, equivocaciones de impresión y anotaciones dinámicas que he tratado de corregir para que la interpretación resulte más adecuada al Quinteto de Cuerdas. Tengo entendido que no existía, hasta ahora, una versión completa de la partitura para Piano y Quinteto de Cuerdas de los Conciertos.
Por el placer de haber descubierto estas joyas musicales, quiero agradecer, en orden cronológico, a el Maestro Alfredo Aracíl quien durante su mando al frente del Festival Internacional de Música y Danza de Granada me informó acerca de la existencia de la versión para Conjunto de Cámara de los Conciertos de Chopin y me contrató para presentarlos en el Festival. A mi colega y amigo, el Maestro Wojciech Michniewski gran músico y director de orquesta, quien me ayudó a conseguir las partes originales. A los solistas de la Orquesta de Cámara de Viena, con quienes tuve el placer de grabar los Conciertos. A Frano Kakarigi, por las molestias que se tomó copiando y transformando paginas sueltas, hasta convertirlas en una partitura coherente.
